Two of my favorite tools to dismantle the fight-or-flight system

Conscious parenting is a paradigm shift, but it does not concern only our children. It is a way of living. Why do I say that? Because embodying conscious parenting principles includes two grand steps:
- Knowledgebase.
- “Misbehavior” is just a tip of a humongous iceberg of heaps of unmet basic psychological needs.
- All triggers with our children reside within ourselves. Our kids merely poke our past wounds within us; that is all. These triggers are illuminating signals that can empower us in our psychological healing journeys.
- “Misbehavior” is just a tip of a humongous iceberg of heaps of unmet basic psychological needs.
- Practice.
You see, 95% of our psychological, emotional, and mental programming was established by the age of six. Therefore, switching one’s way of living is not for the faint-hearted. That is why we need to proactively attend to brain re-programming on a moment-to-moment basis. I would like to share with you two of my favorite tools that help me get out of the fight-or-flight system and reactivate my conscious mind and compassionate heart in the heat of the moment:
1) At the time of trigger, I say to myself, “I am not resisting this.” This will allow me to liberate the energy that could negatively be used for expectations, urge to control, and fear and redirect it to find compassion-based solutions.
2) I figure out what the energy of my child is in the moment, and I enter the dynamic with the antidote of that energy. For example, if my child is angry, I enter with calm energy. If my child is confused, I get in with knowing energy. If my child is hurtful (lack of empathy), I come in with empathetic energy. The opposite of this conscious endeavor could be when we yell at our kids, “YOU NEED TO STOP YELLING NOW!” Yes… we usually enter the situation with the same energy. If they are angry, we get angrier. If they are frustrated, we get more frustrated. Do you not agree?
I talked about these two tools in my recent Facebook live video on my private group, PARENT FROM LOVE. I usually go live in the group every Thursday.
