FREE Mindfulness Zoom Masterclass
I hope you and your family are keeping safe and healthy during these troubled times.
I recently received a copy of my Ph.D. dissertation. The topic is Employee One-Minute Mindful Breathing Microbreaks for Present-Moment Attention, Recovery, and Well-Being.
I chose this topic since I yearned to scientifically offer everyone a chance to savor the splendor of mindfulness practices no matter how busy they are. I dreamed to scientifically prove the positive influences of several daily mindful breathing microbreaks as brief as one minute which makes the golden and foundational practice of mindful breathing feasible for anyone, at any time, and anywhere.
The incentive for this topic arose when my life coaching clients usually failed to commit to their daily assignment of 10-minute mindful breathing. I had to find a way to overpass their excuses of “not having time for meditation.”
The result of the research was astounding, and almost everyone was able to integrate the intervention into their daily life even if they worked in an office.
I recruited 60 individuals across the United States with a variety of professions, such as doctors, engineers, teachers, writers, coaches, salespeople, and administrators.
This is the first research in mindfulness literature that investigated a mindfulness practice as short as one minute.
Here is an excerpt from my dissertation: “Mindfulness interventions have been shown to improve individual well-being, student test anxiety and automatic thoughts, and employee life satisfaction, work-related stress, and wellness condition.”
I believe this is the perfect time to practice mindful breathing microbreaks, as we have all been faced with the impermanence and unpredictability of life on a daily basis as we have never been. After all, mindfulness is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and NON-JUDGEMENTALLY to the unfolding experience moment by moment” (Kabat-Zinn, 2003, p. 145).
